Former Arsenal captain Tony Adams believes Jack Wilshere should have taken the clubs capture of Mesut Ozil last summer as ‘a personal insult’, reports the Daily Mirror. The Gunners broke their transfer record to sign Ozil from Real Madrid last August, and Arsenal icon Adams believes Wilshere is just as good a player as the German international – but needs to do more to prove it this season.
“He should have taken it as a personal insult that Arsenal went out and signed Ozil when they already had the same talent at their disposal in him,” Adams said.
“For me, Jack is as good a player but Ozil has just won the World Cup with Germany and achieved far more.”
The former England captain has challenged to take a leaf out of Aaron Ramsey’s book, and produce performances that make it impossible for Arsene Wenger to leave him out.
“He should certainly be in front of Santi Cazorla, Tomas Rosicky and Aaron Ramsey — and competing with Ozil,” added Adams.
“Jack needs to make sure Arsene dares not drop him, just like Aaron Ramsey did last season with his performances.”
