During his time at Anfield, Liverpool legend Michael Owen was held up in reverence by passionate Liverpool fans worldwide. He will go down in the history books as one of the club’s most iconic players, having won the ‘World Player of the Year Award’ in 2001.

But upon his return to the club on Monday, to play for a Liverpool local Legends side against an International Liverpool Legends  XI, in the Hillsborough charity game, he was welcomed in particularly underwhelming fashion.

Michael Owen, Jamie Redknapp and Robbie Fowler all turned out in a 2-2 draw for a team of Liverpool XI against a Liverpool International XI, which featured Sami Hyypia, Luis Garcia and Jan Molby.

Though the crutches were in open reach on the sideline, surprisingly, they were unneeded by the striker, who developed a reputation for being slightly…injury-prone during the latter stages of his career.

Good to see he took it in good humour though!
