England’s hopes of concluding their short stay in Brazil with a bang never materialised. Instead, it was something more akin to a whimper.
As England struggled to break through a well-rehearsed Costa Rican defence, fans struggled even harder to stay entertained throughout.
Despite Roy Hodgson’s insistence that he was pleased his side gave the fans ‘a performance to cheer about’, the vast majority of England fans sat at home on their couches struggled to muster the same kind of enthusiasm.
Clearly it is Hodgson’s mantra to make the best of a bad situation, and seeing many youngsters make their World Cup full debuts was a promising sight for the future. But at times you get the feeling that some home truths wouldn’t go amiss here and there.
Well here for you now are some home truths from Twitter’s less-than-positive supporters.
