England's hopes of concluding their short stay in Brazil with a bang never materialised. Instead, it was something more akin to a whimper.

As England struggled to break through a well-rehearsed Costa Rican defence, fans struggled even harder to stay entertained throughout.

Despite Roy Hodgson's insistence that he was pleased his side gave the fans 'a performance to cheer about', the vast majority of England fans sat at home on their couches struggled to muster the same kind of enthusiasm.

Clearly it is Hodgson's mantra to make the best of a bad situation, and seeing many youngsters make their World Cup full debuts was a promising sight for the future. But at times you get the feeling that some home truths wouldn't go amiss here and there.

You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone outside of the England setup who will look to put a positive spin on their final group match of the 2014 World Cup. But nevertheless, on to Euro 2016 we go! Sadly, much more in hope than in expectation.
