Manchester United made hard work of their FA Cup win against Championship strugglers Blackburn Rovers but eventually showed their quality to progress to the quarter-finals.

Goals from Marcus Rashford and Zlatan Ibrahimovic provided the victory at Ewood Park after a Danny Graham opener threatened to produce another monstrous FA Cup upset.

The United win keeps the fire burning for supporters who are hoping the club can win an incredible treble of trophies with Jose Mourinho's side still looking good for EFL Cup and UEFA Europa League honours.

The Red Devils now head into the next round and face their toughest test yet, a match away to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Blackburn can take positives from the game and boss Owen Coyle will be hoping they can show some of the same spirit and determination in the league on Friday as they desperately try to avoid the drop to League One.

These are the FIVE photos that tell the story of the game...

Upset in the offing

Danny Graham's superb finished delighted the home support and sparked thoughts of a huge upset at Ewood Park at the end of a weekend of huge upsets.

Credit must go to Marvin Emnes too for his fantastic assist. He bullied Marcos Rojo in the final third to create enough space for the most beautiful reverse pass through to Graham. The striker did not pass up the opportunity and curled the ball across the goal into the far corner.

United fans must have feared the worst.

Rashford's return

It only took ten minutes for Marcus Rashford to show why Jose Mourinho placed trust him in by starting him as United's only striker. The 19 year latched on to Henrikh Mkhitaryan's fine pass and coolly rounded the goalkeeper to slot home and scored his 7th goal of the season. 3 of those have come in the FA Cup and now deserves the chance to show what he can do in the next round against Chelsea.

He can't be denied

Ibrahimovic took just minutes to give United the lead after coming off the bench. He's been such a talismanic figure for the Red Devils this season and proved that again on Sunday, notching up his 24th goal of the season.

It's an incredible return for a 35 year old playing at the top level and he's firmly shut up any critics who were sceptical of his move at the start of the season.

Pogba's key cameo

Paul Pogba was the man who supplied Ibrahimovic with the assist, also coming off the bench to play a key cameo. All of Pogba's assists at United this season have been for Ibrahimovic, highlight the special partnership they've forged through the spine of Mourinho's side.

If United are truly going to challenge for serious silverware this season then Pogba is going to be at the heart of it.

The treble is on

The satisfaction was clear to see within the United squad at the full-time whistle. This is an incredibly busy part of the season for the Old Trafford club so to come away with another win was a fine achievement.

They now have a massive week ahead with the return leg against Saint-Etienne to come midweek in the UEFA Europa League before a Wembley date next weekend against Southampton in the EFL Cup Final.

Come through those unscathed and they'll be well on their way to a famous and successful season in Mourinho's first term as United boss.
