The Celtic vs Rangers derby proved to be as exciting as ever on Sunday after a thrilling and dramatic 90 minutes at Celtic Park.

In a match most pundits expected Celtic to dominate, Rangers matched them every bit of the way to pick up a point that gives them much pride as they head into a managerial era.

It was as poor a Celtic performance as we've seen all season and a match that most fans of the Hoops will likely want to forget quickly. Given they are 33 points ahead of the Gers in the table, many of the home fans expected another big victory in the manner of the 5-1 scoreline earlier in the season.

Full credit to Rangers though, who rallied well in the second half after going behind, crescendoing to an equaliser in the closing minutes of the game.

And of course, it wouldn't be one of these derbies without a few dodgy refereeing decisions too.

Here are the FIVE pictures that tell the story of the game...

Wasteful Waghorn

Martyn Waghorn will look back on this game and feel frustrated that he didn't take any of his clear cut chances to perhaps have given Rangers victory in the game.

His miss in the first half was perhaps the most glaring, latching on to Dedryck Boyata's defensive error to bear down on goal against Craig Gordon.

The Celtic goalkeeper earned every bit of his new contract as he instinctively kept out Waghorns shot with his legs, allowing the Hoops to survive the scare and push on to eventually get the opener in the match.

Armstrong's answer

That opener eventually came through Stuart Armstrong. His low drive gave Wes Foderingham no hope of getting to the ball and sent Celtic Park wild. For a moment it appeared the Bhoys would go on to dominate and perhaps rack up the goals against their city rivals but of course that wasn't to be.

Armstrong was impressive throughout and actually created the opportunity for himself to get into a scoring position for the goal, bodying Jason Holt to lay-off James Forrest who returned the pass for Armstrong to shoot.

By far Celtic's top performer in his time on the pitch, he did eventually look knackered which is why Rodgers ended up subbing him with 20 minutes to go.

Not quite over the Hill

A 38 year old centre-back, veteran Clint Hill was perhaps the least likely goalscorer of the entire match but it was his effort just a few minutes from time that gave Rangers their celebrated point.

Hill was fairly impressive throughout the match, managing to keep the likes of Moussa Dembele very quite indeed.

The Rangers goal was deserved as even most Celtic fans might admit. The Gers had been building consistent pressure in the 15 minutes building up to this goal and without really creating any clear cut chances, always seemed likely to find a leveller somehow.

Jubilation

Clint Hill's goal sparked chaos in the away end as the travelling fans saw their team become the first side in over 12 hours of Scottish Premiership football at Celtic Park to score an away goal. The entire team rushed to share in the joy with them, a rare moment of unity between team and fans this season.

That unity will be vital going forward under new boss Pedro Caixinha who was watching on and this confidence boosting draw is almost the perfect platform for the Portuguese manager to come in and hit the ground running.

The penalty that never was

Clint Hill was immediately involved in more drama after his goal as Leigh Griffiths raced clear in the final moments of the match, ready to pull the trigger and give Celtic victory. Hill's challenge in the box wiped out the striker and got the faintest of touches on the ball, which in referee Bobby Madden's mind meant it was fair.

Replays suggest it was probably the wrong call, a critical decision that had a massive bearing on the outcome of the match. The draw in the end was probably the fair result but Hoops supporters will likely feel aggrieved that they didn't get the chance to smash home a winning penalty.

These games are never dull and this dramatic moment just capped off a thrilling and fun afternoon for supporters of both sides and neutrals alike.
