Manchester United scout far and wide and all over the world in the their search for talent that can make them Premier League title contenders.

A little-tapped market for the Old Trafford side in recent years has been the Scottish Premiership. With players coming south of the border with increasing frequency due to Celtic's successful transfer model, it's a market that could prove fruitful for United.

The Scottish champions have sent some big names the Premier League's way over the last few years, Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama being two that have emerged as some of the division's best talent.

Hot on the heels of those two could be a young Scottish left-back who is taking his country by storm; Kieran Tierney.

Tierney was linked this week in the Mirror with a £10m move to Old Trafford, a deal that could prove to be a very good piece of business indeed.

Here are FIVE reasons signing up Kieran Tierney could be a masterstroke by Mourinho...

The precedent set

Given the buzz around Virgil van Dijk right now, the twelve million or so pounds he cost Southampton seems like a massive bargain in hindsight.

Van Dijk was a sensation in Scotland during his two year-spell; a fan favourite and a player lauded by the press. That's true of Tierney too.

The 19-year old has been every bit as impressive as the likes of Van Dijk for the Hoops since making his debut for the club at the tail end of the 2014/15 season.

Tierney won two national Young Player of the Year awards in the last campaign, proving he is the best young talent in the Scottish Premiership.

If Man United can get in early on his talent, they cut out the Premier League middleman - should he make a move to another English club and perform well. Reason enough to pay the amounts spoken about in the press recently.

His European performances

Tierney made a significant step this season, achieving his dream of becoming a UEFA Champions League player. It's been a massive learning process for him.

In Celtic's first fixture in the Group Stage, they were hammered 7-0 by Barcelona and Tierney looked as exposed as anyone on the night. Playing against world-class talent looked a step too far.

In the next fixture however, that all changed. Against United's great rivals Manchester City, Kieran Tierney was one of the best players on the pitch, giving City hell all night down Celtic's left flank. He showed he had the defensive and attacking capabilities required to compete against Premier League opposition.

It was his overlapping run and cross that was diverted into the Manchester City goal to make it 2-1, part of that memorable 3-3 thriller at Celtic Park. If he can do it at that level, he can do it for United.

Already an international

Tierney won his first senior international cap aged just 18, completely bypassing the U21 system and heading straight into Gordon Strachan's plans.

Much like his European showings, he didn't look out of place against Denmark at Hampden Park, at times looking like Scotland's best player on the pitch.

Manchester United have a rich history of giving Scottish players a platform to shine; Darren Fletcher, Brian McClair, Lou Macari, Denis Law and Gordon Strachan himself.

Tierney has the ability to make himself another iconic Scottish name and the Theatre of Dreams would be an excellent place for him to do it.

A born winner

It's Tierney's determination to impact and win a game that could be his greatest asset. The pressure at Celtic to win every game is immense and regardless of opposition is a hard thing to do week-in, week-out.

At times over the last 20 months, Tierney has looked like the only player dragging Celtic forward. That was especially true under Ronny Deila. When malaise had crept over the side, it was Tierney who kept the Bhoys' motor running.

That mentality could be crucial for the likes of Manchester United. It's all well and good signing top talent from other Premier League clubs and around the world, but unless they've truly felt the pressure of having to win every single game, they don't understand what it takes to make it at a club like Manchester United.

His attacking instinct

Tierney's touch, tackling and fearlessness serves him well on defensive duties but what sets him apart is his ability to attack.

Often Celtic's biggest threat at times, his surging runs from the left-back position have become a hallmark of this Hoops side.

That's only been more true since Brendan Rodgers arrived at the club. He's been able to link up superbly with the likes of Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele so far this term. It was his assist for Dembele that allowed the striker to score that wonder goal against Man City.

That creative flair and natural instinct to attack would be a massive positive in Mourinho's side, offering a different dimension to their current options on the left-hand side.
