Given the mauling the Premier League took at the glitzy Fifa Ballon d’Or gala recently, now seems as good a time as any to take stock of quite how our outstanding players are performing with just under half a season left to play.
Indeed, for a league consistently hailed as the planet’s best, the abject lack of any of its players in the controversial all La Liga XI felt somewhat alarming at best. Yet even despite whether you think Marcelo couldn’t hold a candle to Ashley Cole or how Sergio Ramos isn’t fit to tie Gary Caldwell’s bootlaces, how exactly are our star performers getting on this season?
Because while the usual suspects continue to fire on all cylinders, this season more than ever we’ve seen that you don’t have to play for one of the top two to get yourself noticed in this country. Indeed, considering the current Premier League leaders Manchester United, have only one entry in our top 15 outstanding present Premier League players, it throws up some interesting debate indeed.
