Chelsea extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to eight points on Sunday with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over struggling Hull City at Stamford Bridge.

It was a match marred by a serious injury sustained by Hull's Ryan Mason, who suffered a fractured skull after an unfortunate head clash with Gary Cahill and was taken to hospital. Thankfully it seems that he's on the mend, and reportedly he was speaking on Monday after surgery. Football was at times the last thing on anyone's mind during the encounter and fans everywhere will be delighted that Mason is making progress.

The show did go on and goals from Diego Costa and Cahill meant that the Tigers ended the weekend in the relegation zone despite most teams around them also being defeated.

It wasn't a game of fantastic team performances, but a few stars did shine on both sides.

These are the THREE players who excelled at Stamford Bridge on Sunday...

Victor Moses - Right flank dominance

Victor Moses' performance on the right flank was a key part of Chelsea's win. The Nigeria international put in a machine-like display and dominated the fixture both relative to Hull and his team-mates.

With 70 passes across the 90 minutes, no player passed the ball more in Chelsea colours and all but one of them came on the right-hand side of the pitch.

Hull couldn't get a handle on him all game, he was instrumental in building the Blues' attacks and it was his pass that allowed Costa to score his goal in the dying embers of the first-half.

His transformation into an effective right wing-back has been one of the more intriguing personal stories of the season and it was a delight to see him write another chapter in that on Sunday.

Harry Maguire - Man mountain

Chelsea would likely have had many more goals on Sunday if not for the massive performance of Hull's Harry Maguire. The 23-year old was at times a one-man wall in front of the Tigers' goal making a number of key tackles and blocks.

He did, in fact, make an incredible eight tackles, seven clearances, three blocks and seven interceptions across the 90 minutes. When you add that to the eight aerial duels he won, it's clear it was a defensive performance of the highest quality.

It was a performance that likely attracted eyes from much bigger clubs, Chelsea included, offering a glimpse into his future as a Premier League defender. He was a man who was definitely unlucky to be on the losing side.

Diego Costa ended speculation, at least in the short-term, about his future at Chelsea with a dynamic display that set them on the road to victory.

Dropped last week against Leicester amid widespread reports of attempts from China to sign him, Costa looked at his best in front of an appreciative home crowd on Sunday.

His goal was one of three shots on target, from a total of six attempts. That was more than anyone else on the pitch and showed that he'll remain Chelsea's key attacking threat going forward this season.

If Antonio Conte can keep him motivated and in this form, the Premier League title will become less of a race and more of a procession for the Blues.
