Tottenham Hotspur are keeping an eye on the situation of Anthony Martial at Manchester United with a summer move for the Frenchman potentially on the cards, according to reports from the Mirror.

Martial's Man United future has been the subject of debate for some time, with the attacking star having struggled to hold down a first-team berth since Jose Mourinho's arrival at Old Trafford.

Martial was the star of Man United's season last time out under Louis van Gaal, finishing as the club's top scorer, while being nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award - one he arguably should be won given that he more often than not carried his club through a difficult season.

However, since the arrival of Mourinho, a man famed for his reluctance to rely on young players, he has struggled for game time, making only ten Premier League starts and a handful in other competitions.

A player of his ability is far too good to be wasted on the sidelines, and we think a move to Spurs would be perfect for both player and club.

Here are THREE reasons why...

Proven Goalscorer

Tottenham have on their hands one of the most consistent Premier League goalscorers in recent seasons in Harry Kane.

However, one thing that has become clear of late is that they struggle for goals when Kane isn't in the side. Summer signing Vincent Janssen has been a real flop, and other than him Spurs really do lack options up top.

Martial has proven he can score regularly at the top level, even when given only fleeting opportunities to do so, so the Frenchman could be the perfect man to either partner him or be Kane's back-up option, moving in from the wing during his absences.

Versatility

Touched upon briefly in the last point, Martial is capable of playing almost anywhere across the front line. While he truly excels up front, the former Monaco player is also more than capable of playing out wide, or even in behind the striker.

More often than not he is utilised in the former slot at Man United, however, he has proven he can still get amongst the goals. This could be of use to Spurs, who lack depth when key first XI stars are out of action.

Wage Bill

It may not be a 'reason' per say to sign a player, but Anthony Martial actually fits into Tottenham's wage structure almost perfectly, something that is too often forgotten by many of the Premier League's big spenders.

The Frenchman earns a (still outrageous) relatively modest £65,000 per week at Old Trafford, making him one of the lowest earners in the first-team. Zlatan Ibrahimovic in comparison earns a whopping £225,000 per week.

Spurs' highest-paid player, on the other hand, is Harry Kane, who nets himself a tasty £100,000 each seven days. This means that not only is Martial an affordable man, but it is likely Tottenham will actually be able to offer him slightly increased wages, something that is sure to please the 21-year-old and even perhaps tempt him away from Old Trafford.
