Roy Hodgson is ready to reward Arsenal‘s Calum Chambers’ fine early season form with an England call-up, according to reports from The Mirror.

The 19-year-old switched to the Gunners from Southampton in a £16m deal over the summer, and has been a key member of Arsene Wenger’s XI during the past few weeks.

With Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny away from peak fitness thanks to the World Cup, Chambers has been deployed as a centre-back instead of in his favoured right-sided role, but his performances have been assured and composed.

It’s understood that Hodgson has been suitably impressed, and that he is seriously considering handing the teenager his international debut in his next round of friendly games.

The Three Lions coach will discuss his upcoming squad with members of staff this week as he plots for games against Norway and Switzerland, but Chambers is expected to be given the nod as he looks to put further trust in youth.

Wenger himself has urged the England camp to not rush his star into senior action, with the youngster having not even represented his nation at U-21 level yet.
