Ashley Cole is set to win his 100th cap tonight when England face Brazil at Wembley, but he admits me may never be loved by the fans.

Cole will be joining the illustrious centurion club along the likes of, Bobby Moore, Billy Wright, Sir Bobby Charlton, Peter Shilton, David Beckham and Steven Gerrard, all of whom are respected my millions.

The controversial Chelsea defender has been a mainstay in the England set-up since making his debut for the Three Lions in 2001 under Sven Goran Eriksson. The 32-year-old is a fan favourite of the Stamford Bridge faithful but accepts other fans may not see him in the same light.

"Maybe I don't get the recognition and praise, but I don't want to sit here and keep going on about wanting to be loved," Cole told The Mirror.

"You need character to overcome low points, yes.

"In football you can't always have it your own way. You can't always have the good times. You are going to have bad spells when you are not playing well. It is something I have to deal with. I have leaned to deal with it."
