England face Slovakia tonight in their final group game of Euro 2016. It’s unlikely to be England’s last game at the tournament, but stranger things have happened. In fact, a draw tonight would leave the door ajar for Wales to win the group; defeat would open it wide for both the Welsh and tonight’s opponents Slovakia to overtake England and take the top two spots. That would leave England sweating – in that scenario, they’d have to hope that four points is enough to get them through as one of the best third-place teams. And so the rumours (per The Guardian) that England are set to make a full six changes to their squad tonight has met with trepidation from England supporters. Yet, a point tonight will see England qualify in at least second place, and might even win them the group. So we ran a Twitter poll to find out what you really think of this. Were the fans genuinely worried that fielding a second string side against Marek Hamsik and co would be a typically ‘England’ way of going out in the group stages? Or were the fans confident that the ‘reserve’ side made up of experienced (not to mention, expensive) Premier League talent could get the job done tonight and leave the starters from the first two games fresh for an assault on the knockout stages of the competition?Well, it seems Twitter is full of harbingers of doom:

The notion of Roy Hodgson as a bumbling lunatic locked away in an ivory tower, completely cut off from the modern world is a compelling one, it seems. It explains why, for example, Danny Drinkwater was left out of the side, or why England’s tactical nous has often seemed so underwhelming.

So, is that a fair characterisation of Hodgson? Does his reported decision to rest his starters fill you with dread? Tell us below how far you think England will go in this tournament.
