Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reached a compromise with Roy Hodgson regarding Jack Wilshere’s involvement in next week’s England friendly.

The Gunners midfielder has only just returned to first-team action following a lengthy spell on the treatment table with a succession of injuries.

Despite this, Hodgson made no secret of his desire to re-introduce the 20-year-old back into his senior squad, which is believed to have irked Wenger.

Wilshere received a red card in his last outing for the Londoners, meaning he will be suspended for their weekend clash with Fulham.

Due to this, and assurances by the national team coach, the Frenchman is willing for his fragile star to play for the Three Lions:

“You know what I think with Jack, that it is early for him. I had Roy Hodgson on the phone, we found a good understanding and compromise,” he is quoted by The Metro.

“What helps is that he is not playing over the weekend. He will have a little breather. Roy wants him in the group to connect the game with the players.”

However, Wenger did reveal that he would rather his midfielder was not used at all:

“The ideal solution would be yes (he wouldn’t be involved). But it is as it is.

“Jack has played three games now, and only one (has been a) full game.

“Sometimes, you need, when you accumulate games, to have a little rest again and then go even harder. For us, what is important to know, is to stop him before he gets to that point.”

The youngster has been missing from first-team duty for 17 months with knee and ankle problems.
