There was not much to write home about regarding England’s performance at the World Cup in Brazil, but one thing that can’t be denied is the experience many of the players earned.
Young players such as Ross Barkley, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Welbeck and more all had prominent roles for England during the three matches, and that is certainly something to build on going forward towards Euro 2016 in France.
Former England centre back Rio Ferdinand, speaking to promote the launch of EA SPORTS UFC, admits there is not much else to take from it other than the experience they gained, which should serve them well in the future.
Ferdinand said: ‘There were a couple of youngsters that played well against Italy and showed that they’re not scared to perform at this stage.
“I thought Barkley had done well, Sterling did well. Daniel Sturridge proved he can play at that level, he scored in the first game.
“Danny Welbeck performed well, so I think the positives are that the young players played well for us.”
