The Brazilian only joined the Ligue 1 champions last summer, but is nearing a £28.4million move to the Camp Nou after just 12 months. Marquinhos made 21 league appearances for the Paris side, partnering fellow countryman Thiago Silva.
Barca are looking to bring in new defenders this season, especially after missing out on David Luiz, who has left Chelsea for PSG. Luiz’s arrival looks set to force Marquinho’s transfer out of the French capital, and to replace Carlos Puyol in La Liga.
PSG bought the 20-year-old for £24.4million from Roma last summer, and had been quick to deny rumours suggesting they would move the centre-back on. But with new reports suggesting Dani Alves could be part of a swap deal, the French club are now reportedly interested in offers near £30million.
Luiz is not the first centre-back to choose France over a move to the Catalan side, after Thiago Silva joined the Paris outfit back in 2012. But Barca look set to finally strengthen their defensive options, after having to convert Alex Song and Javier Mascherano into centre-backs when injuries hit the squad.
Marquinhos was not selected to be part of Brazil’s World Cup squad.
