Samuel Allardyce played for numerous clubs in his nearly 20-year professional football career. After retiring from playing professionally in 1992, Allardyce took the job as a caretaker for Preston North End to gain valuable experience that he would continue to use throughout the rest of his managing career.

Led Blackpool to their most successful season in years during the 1995-1996 season. Won promotion with Notts County in 1997-1998. Achieved promotion to the Premiership with Bolton Wanderers in 2000-2001. Led Bolton to League Cup final. Bolton qualified for the UEFA Cup for the first time in club history during the 2004-2005 season. Led West Ham to promotion back to the Premier League in 2012.
