The 6-3 drumming at the hands of Manchester City has cast some doubt over Arsenal’s title ambitions this season and with Chelsea standing in their way at The Emirates, Monday night’s fixture is a must win for Arsene Wenger.
However the North London side still sit in third place in the Premier League table and can go top again with a win against rivals Chelsea. The two sides have already met once this year in the Capital One Cup, with Jose Mourinho’s side taking the spoils. Wenger has still failed to beat his nemesis on nine occasions and Chelsea have only lost twice in their last 11 visits to Arsenal.
Chelsea are certainly beatable though. They were pushed hard by Crystal Palace the other day at Stamford Bridge, holding on to take the game 2-1, and it was only on Wednesday that the Blues were dumped out of the Capital One Cup by a spirited Sunderland performance. In all competitions they have lost four out of six games away from home so Wenger’s side will be well aware of the numbers when Chelsea come to visit on Monday.
Mourinho’s side have struggled to score goals this year and their top striker is on loan to Everton in the form of Lukaku. Eto looks off the pace and Torres is as unreliable as ever. Arsenal on the other hand have played some fluid football this year with Aaron Ramsey in the form of his life. It’s a huge encounter and will define which of these sides will be able to keep pace with Manchester City in the league this year.
