Premier League LIVE: Manchester City v Liverpool

This is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated games of the season so far. One point separates the sides in the Premier League and both teams have been firing on all cylinders recently, with Liverpool averaging two goals per game and City hitting six past Arsenal and Spurs.

Liverpool have been propelled into the business end of the Premier League by the formidable Luis Suarez who has now netted 19 goals this season. His rise to form has brought the best out of the players around him line Jordan Henderson who is looking like a completely different player to previous seasons.

City on the other hand have scored 51 goals this year, recently beating Fulham 4-2 at Craven Cottage. The strong form  of Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri has helped keep the blue side of Manchester in the top four this year, while newcomer Alvaro Negredo has shown his class and bagged 13 goals in all competitions so far this season.

The one weakness both of these sides have is in defence. The farcical own goal by Vincent Kompany against Fulham highlighted City’s lack of composure at times in defence and Liverpool have also been partial to a few mishaps through the likes of Martin Skrtel.

FFC Predicts: Manchester City 2-3 Liverpool

The form of Luis Suarez makes Liverpool an unstoppable force at the moment and the fact that Fulham could take the game to 2-2 against City shows vulnerability in defence. The problem for Suarez could be service as Yaya Toure is the master of the midfield and has already shown against Arsenal that the likes of Ramsey and Ozil are not a match for him on his day.

Manchester City v Liverpool Pre-Match Stats

The last top-flight team to score as many goals as Man City (35) in their opening eight home games were Spurs in 1962-63.

Liverpool have only won one of their last five Barclays Premier League away games (D2 L2).

Six of the last nine Premier League matches between Liverpool and Manchester City have been draws (Two City wins, one Liverpool, all 3-0 at home).

Manchester City have failed to score in their last two Premier League games played on December 26 (0-0 with WBA in 2011 and 0-1 v Sunderland last year).

Liverpool last won on December 26 back in 2009 when Rafa Benitez was manager (2-0 v Wolves)

Luis Suarez already has 10 goals in December 2013 – no other player in the history of the Premier League has scored more than eight in a single month of Premier League action within a season.

Suarez has 29 goals in 26 Premier League appearances in 2013. Should he score one more, it’ll be only the seventh time that a player has scored 30+ goals in a calendar year in the PL.

Suarez has made 149 touches in the opposition box this season, more than any other player despite missing Liverpool’s opening five games.

Yaya Toure has scored four direct free kick goals in his Premier League career; with all of them coming this season.

Manchester City are the only team in the Premier League this season yet to drop a point at home (P8 W8 D0 L0). They have also scored in each of their last 58 Premier League home games.
