Premier League: Norwich v Fulham Preview

Rene Meulensteen (Fulham)Being unbeaten in four games at home is not quite enough to warrant Carrow Road a fortress, but it certainly bodes well for Norwich City who host Fulham on Boxing Day.

Chris Hughton’s side have only lost once in their last five Premier League games, but still haven’t picked up as many wins as they would have liked along the way. Draws with Swansea and Sunderland were games that Hughton surely viewed as winnable games and as it stands The Canaries are 14th in the league, a much safer position than Fulham.

The West London side pushed Man City at Craven Cottage but ultimately lacked finishing quality. They have only won one away match all year and although Rene Meulensteen is getting more out of the players, they are still in 19th place. He is still after his first away win since taking over from Martin Jol, but will be encouraged by the fact that his side have not lost to Norwich since a Division Two meeting in 1986.

FFC Predicts: Norwich City 2-1 Fulham

Although Fulham have not lost to Norwich since 1986 their performances this season have been worrying as a spectator. They lack depth in their squad and the quality is just not there in some positions. Norwich will have studied that Man City match and will know that Fulham have conceded the most goals this season out of any team with 34 against them.

    Norwich v Fulham Pre-Match Stats

Norwich City have only lost three of 17 Barclays Premier League home games in 2013 (W6 D8).

Fulham’s joint-biggest win in Barclays Premier League history was 6-0 against Norwich in May 2005.

Fulham have won nine and lost none of their last 12 games in all competitions against Norwich.

Dimitar Berbatov has five goals and five assists in six Premier League appearances on December 26.

Berbatov is one of only five players in Premier League history to score a hat-trick on December 26th in the Premier League (Man Utd v Wigan in 2011).

In fact, 23 of Dimitar Berbatov’s 93 Premier League goals (25%) have been scored in December – at least 10 more goals than in any other month of the year.

Fulham have only won one of their 11 Premier League games played on December 26 (W1 D6 L4) and that win came back in 2003.

Norwich have never scored a goal in a Premier League game on December 26 (four games).

Gary Hooper has scored in three successive Premier League games at Carrow Road.

This is the first time since they returned to the top-flight in 2001 that Fulham have been in the relegation zone at Christmas.
