Southampton v West Brom: The Alternative Preview

Anelka West Brom v Newcastle preview pic

    Probable teams…

Southampton (4-2-3-1) Davis; Clyne, Fonte, Lovren, Shaw; S.Davis, Schneiderlin; Ramirez, Lallana, Ward-Prowse; Rodriguez

Rickie Lambert is a doubt, meaning Jay Rodriguez could be asked to play through the middle. Goalkeeper Kelvin Davis will again stand in for the injured Artur Boruc, while Pablo Osvaldo remains suspended.

West Brom (4-2-3-1) Foster; Jones, McAuley, Olsson, Ridgewell; Sinclair, Morrison, Yacob, Brunt; Long, Berahino.

Caretaker boss Keith Downing is set to name his final side before the former Real Betis manager Pepe Mel takes charge.  Craig Dawson and Goran Popov are expected to return, while Billy Jones and Youssouf Mulumbu who both missed the FA Cup defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend are both set to miss out again for the trip to St Mary’s.

    What the fans are saying…

    Remember this?

Classic from last season which saw a famous away win for the Baggies and three red cards.

    One To Watch…

    Jay Rodriguez, Southampton striker

Southampton are having a very good season and with Jay Rodriguez set to play in the middle tomorrow expect him to be amongst the goals should the Saints go crazy against an under-par West Brom side.

Some stats to get your head around:

Southampton’s Adam Lallana scored his first ever professional goal against West Brom in the Championship in April 2008.

West Brom have kept three clean sheets in their last four Barclays Premier League meetings with Southampton, conceding just once in the other game.
