LIVE World Cup: Costa Rica vs England

    Possible Lineups…

England HodgsonEngland (4-2-3-1): Foster, Jones, Smalling, Cahill, Shaw, Wilshere, Lampard, Milner, Barkley,Lallana, Sturridge

With Italy’s shock 1-0 loss to tonight’s opponents Costa Rica, England were knocked out of the World Cup group stages for the first time since 1958. Roy Hodgson is therefore expected to give some of his side’s youngsters World Cup experience, with an almost new look back-line including Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Luke Shaw. Lampard will start over captain Steven Gerrard in what could be his last game for the Three Lions.

Costa Rica (5-4-1): Navas, Diaz, Umana, Gonzalez, Duarte, Gamboa, Bolanos, Tejeda, Borges, Ruiz, Campbell

The undoubted surprise package of the tournament, Costa Rica were deemed as the ‘whipping boys’ in the Group of Death but after two wins over the favourites to progress, have already secured qualification into the next round. Coach Jorge Luis Pinto will be keen to rest some of his star players, yet will want to avoid a last sixteen encounter with Colombia by topping the group and you can get odds of 15/4 with bet365 for Costa Rica to win this evening.

    What the fans are saying…

    Remember this?

England may not be fond of Costa Rica for beating the Italians and knocking them out, but fans will remember one Costa Rican in Paulo Wanchope, who was a star in the English Premier League for some time.
