  • ThumbnailEvery team has one, the player whose career had so much promise until it stuttered and stalled due to host of injury problems. Instead of etching themselves in the club’s history with man of the match displays, these frustrating stars end up becoming more familiar with the club physio than the man on the terrace. Infuriatingly [...]

ThumbnailThe Premier League is meant to be the most competitive contest in football. Pundits and players alike insist no other country offers the same level of passion, controversy and unpredictability as our very own sporting institution. It’s a wonderful attraction that is watched by millions across the world but given there are so many sides vying [...]

ThumbnailIt’s not a path that many footballers choose to travel but leaving the champions of England and returning home to the North East is something that suited Adam Johnson down to a tee. His bit part role at Manchester City certainly illustrated his immense talent but it also stunted his progression due to a lack of [...]

ThumbnailRobin Hood would be turning in his grave. The rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer was not a mantra shared by Nottingham’s favourite renegade but after the Premier League announced their latest TV rights deal, it would appear the poor will remain poor for a very long time. The Premier League’s latest TV deal [...]

ThumbnailThe Premier League has witnessed some of the greatest sporting moments in history with star players earning adulation from supporters with skill and elegance. It’s what makes English football so attractive to fans all over world but for every success story there are plenty of badly thought out transfers that have ended less than ceremoniously. While [...]

Amidst the celebrated stars of the beautiful game lies a group of players whose careers have taken a turn for the worse. Be it a young up and comer who lets money go to their head when signed by a top club or an established talent who lets their personal life destroy their professional aspirations, football [...]

  • We’ve all heard the acclaim and read the hype but more often than not ‘the next Lionel Messi’ never quite lives up to expectation. However gloriously the gossip columns portray them, these players’ careers are never quite as faultless as their YouTube clips would have you believe and the Premier League is littered with supposedly talented [...]

  • With football’s silly season already in full swing and rumour abound that players and managers alike will be seeking pastures new, experienced fans are starting to see a familiar pattern emerging. Overinflated transfers fees, shock bids for unknown quantities and Harry Redknapp denying links to every player under the sun are just some of the qualities [...]

  • Alex Churcher wrote a new blog post: The Full Premier League Season Preview – Sunderland   9 months, 1 week ago · View

The majority of Sunderland fans would be lying if they said they hadn’t been expecting more from Martin O’Neill’s first full summer in charge. With obvious weaknesses in the squad and assurances from the manager and Chairman Ellis Short that the club would be targeting quality signings, the solitary arrival of Carlos Cuellar hasn’t exactly revitalised [...]

  • Alex Churcher wrote a new blog post: What to expect from Aston Villa   9 months, 3 weeks ago · View

It was a difficult season for everyone concerned with Aston Villa last time out as the controversial appointment of Alex McLeish did little to quell concern at Villa Park. Having already relegated their midlands rivals, the Scot tried his best to repeat the trick but thankfully his players did just enough to survive and Chairman Randy [...]

Despite the friendly banter flying back and forth throughout many a North East workplace, the underlying bitterness residing in Tyne-Wear rivalries means Sunderland fans would usually dislike their manager announcing he sees emulating Newcastle United as one of his main targets. Having been the region’s top dogs for three consecutive seasons, many of the Black Cats [...]

Its true there have been good atmospheres at matches but it’s a strange noise not quite akin with the Premier League. It’s almost like fans are just there to enjoy themselves rather than it meaning a huge amount to them.

  • Alex Churcher wrote a new blog post: How Long Can Team GB Football Really Last?   9 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Having topped the group and qualified for the quarter-finals of the Olympics, Team GB can certainly take some pride in their efforts so far at London 2012. The first football team from Great Britain for 40 years may not have set the world alight with some lacklustre performances but they have progressed through the competition and [...]

You’re absolutely right but they should be of enough quality to be able to play in the first team.

Did Carlos Cuellar not satisfy your cravings?! :) It certainly has taken a while for O’Neill to get his chequebook out but I’m getting used to the club teasing me with it’s unsubstantiated statements!
