£7m worth of reasons why Liverpool would be nuts to turn down move

Football FanCast reporter Freddie Myers mulls over the latest rumours and rumblings

As we enter the international break and managers relinquish the majority of their squad for around ten days; it is the perfect time for them to sit back and reflect on how the season has gone and secondly what areas of the squad need to be improved ahead of the January window.

Rafa Benitez made the revelation a similar time last year of how long a perspective transfer takes and why it is important to strike early, do the groundwork, so the subsequent signings are conducted smoothly. The Spaniard faced the wrath of his American owners who made it public that they would not be coughing up any money and Rafa should be content with what he has got. Little did we know that their brashness at the time, which caused complete unrest as a result, was merely covering up the fact that their were little funds available at the time.

It finally seems that the furore of last year at Liverpool has finally calmed down and everyone seems united and pulling in the same direction. Results on the football pitch have been a sensation and Liverpool finally look like Champion material, but it is vital that they don't rest on their laurels ahead of January. As a Liverpool great once proclaimed that it is "good to add players to the football club when you are in a position of strength as it stops complaceny setting in." Many a true word said and there are certain areas in the squad that certainly could do with a freshening up.

One area that could certainly could welcome a further addition is upfront, where Liverpool are decidedly short. Andriy Voronin's departure on loan as well as Crouch's sale to Portsmouth has left Torres, Kuyt and Keane as the only recognised strikers within the club and given that the Dutchman has become invaluable on the right, you do sense that a new arrival should come in to keep the other two - or should I say Keane - on his toes.

The rumour mill today courtesy of our friends at the Daily Mail have suggested that Liverpool have joined Chelsea and Middlesbrough in the chase for 21yr old Brazilian striker Diogo; who is currently making a huge impression for Olympiakos .

Liverpool of course are no strangers to South Americans at the football club and you can't help feel that will certainly tempt Diogo, should Liverpool confirm their interest with a bid. A fee hasn't been banded around as yet but you sense the Greeks will look to at least make a little bit of a gain on their £7m summer purchase.

Would Liverpool be happy with a possible signing of Diogo or should they be looking elsewhere?

What about David N'gog? He's on the books and had an impressive pre-season for what it's worth, with some decent stats at international youth level.
