Norwich winger Anthony Pilkington says that he is surprised by the level of uncertainty surrounding manager Chris Hughton’s position at the club.
The Canaries chief has overseen just two wins in the Premier League so far this season, with some suggesting that if he hadn’t secured all three points against Stoke over the weekend his job would have been in jeopardy.
Norwich now sit four points clear of the relegation zone after six games, and Pilkington has revealed that has been shocked by the criticism aimed at, and the rumours surrounding, Hughton:
“It’s crazy,” he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“I wrote on Twitter asking if it was too early for Paolo Di Canio (the former Sunderland manager, who was sacked on 22 September) to go, given we’re only five or six games into the season.
“We have brought a lot of new players in and it takes time for them to gel. But you have seen (at Stoke) what we can do.”
Pilkington has been a key part of Hughton’s side ever since the ex-Newcastle coach took over from now Aston Villa chief Paul lambert.
The winger was linked with a shock move away from Carrow Road over the summer, however he has remained a City player.
Should he lose his job in the coming weeks, Hughton will be the second manager of 2013/14 to do so following Paolo Di Canio’s Sunderland exit.
