David Beckham

Tottenham are looking like favourites to land LA Galaxy’s David Beckham on a nine week loan spell in the coming week. However is a slow 35 year old what Harry Redknapp and Tottenham really need? With Lassana Diarra still struggling to feature regularly in the Real Madrid side, would the French defensive midfielder not be a better option?

Yes there is a certain amount of romanticism when it comes to the prospect of signing the former England skipper, but it must be said that with Aaron Lennon in form, is the LA Galaxy midfielder what Tottenham need as they push on with their title bid?

Some would argue that having one of the tallest strikers in the Premier League in Peter Crouch, and potentially the best crosser of the ball within your ranks is a match made in heaven. However, Beckham has only played a handful of games since his return from injury so it would not be unfair to say that his fitness is in question.

Lassana Diarra on the other hand is young, extremely versatile and could sit in front of the back four, breaking down any opposition attacks, thus cementing Tottenham’s quest for the Premier League crown.

The acquisition would also add squad depth for the coming seasons, something that David Beckham would be unable to do. There is no questioning Beckham’s drive, determination and quality, but surely the sensible move, ignoring romanticism, would be to move in for Lassana Diarra?

So what do you think, should Harry forget Becks and go for Lassana Diarra? For me signing the Real Madrid defensive midfielder would surely be the more sensible option having youth on his side, I believe over time this would prove more beneficial than the experience and ability Beckham would offer over a nine week stint? Let me know?
