Manchester City’s opening 45 minutes against West Ham

Heading into the first leg of the Semi-Final between Manchester City and West Ham, the home side were expected to be in for a tough battle – despite their imperious form at the Etihad Stadium. The Hammers had effectively sacrificed the FA Cup just a matter of days before to keep their players fresh for the trip to the North West, while the Citizens had endured a difficult draw with Blackburn Rovers.

However, Manuel Pellegrini’s men eased their opponents aside, with their opening 45-minute display pretty much securing their passage into the Final. Two goals from Alvaro ‘The Beast’ Negredo and a Yaya Toure strike sapped the energy from a beleaguered Irons outfit, who eventually went on to lose 9-0 over the two legs.
