All the expected momentum that Liverpool should have had going into last night's game against Leicester City has surely dissipated now after a poor 3-1 defeat against the champions.

Coming into the game at the King Power Stadium, all the smart-money was on Liverpool getting the three points to propel them to third in the division.

Supposedly fresh from two weeks without a game, back in winning ways after beating Spurs last time out and against an opponent with no manager and no league goals in 2017, this was surely a forgone conclusion.

But it wasn't, as the Reds were beaten in every department to leave many ready to stick their respective oars in and make light of the uneasy waters that once again arose in their defence.

One man's been getting most of the criticism, too - Lucas Leiva - but the stats suggest that actually, his partner in this latest defensive crime - Joel Matip - deserves a fair portion of the blame...

The out-of-position Brazilian didn't have a great game by no means, but he shades his Cameroonian accomplice - a man considered the Reds' best defender - in nearly every key defensive compartment.

The problem for the Merseyside outfit, then, appears far more intricate than simply players being played out of position.
