Deadline Day is a funny old place, where the lines between fact and fiction are continually blurred as the most audacious of transfer rumours are suddenly adopted by the mainstream media. And one curious tale doing the rounds this morning is a potential Chelsea transfer bid for Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale, once of west London rivals Fulham, as an alternative to Cetlic No.1 and reported target Craig Gordon.[ad_pod id='now-tv' align='centre']This theory isn't exactly new - last weekend, Mirror Football covered the story, with Thibaut Courtois' understudy Asmir Begovic keen to complete a January move to Bournemouth. It didn't gain a huge amount of traction but the Stockdale-to-Chelsea saga has emerged once again today, courtesy of talkSPORT's Ian Abrahams.

In addition to the above tweet, 'The Moose' said on talkSPORT this morning, as quoted by The Daily Star...

"I understand that Chelsea will turn their attention to another goalkeeper. It’s goalkeeper who plays for a team at the top of the Championship. They could go for Brighton keeper David Stockdale. That’s if they miss out on Craig Gordon."

Whether there's any truth to it remains to be seen. But as our infographic shows, the 31-year-old is enjoying a fantastic campaign with the Championship title hopefuls, keeping eleven clean sheets, conceding just 16 goals and making 47 saves in the process. Accordingly, that averages out at an impressive 3.1 saves per goal.

With his contract due to expire in the summer, we reckon Stockdale could prove to be a real bargain for the Blues, but do Chelsea fans agree?
