The Senegalese ace has been one of Belgian football’s top rising stars for some time, with his performances having led to speculation of a move to one of Europe’s big leagues on multiple occasions.
The 24-year-old centre-back has been lauded for his physically imposing style of play, and caught Arsene Wenger’s eye during the 2012 Olympic Games.
Kouyate’s agent, Saffet Balkan, says that interest in his client is high and that he has been in contact with both Liverpool and Arsenal.
“I have been in talks with representatives from Liverpool and Arsenal over Cheikhou Kouyate,” Balkan told the Daily Star.
“Arsenal are very interested in Kouyate. It’s very likely that he’ll be joining a Premier League club soon.”
Kouyate is particularly attractive to both sides, with his spell in Belgium having made him eligible for a passport, which rules out the need for a work permit.
Arsenal and Liverpool are both thought to be interested in securing defensive reinforcements, and could make serious moves in the coming weeks.
