Chelsea have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Julian Draxler, with Schalke general manager Horst Heldt insisting that the midfielder will not be leaving the club.
The Premier League pair have both been linked with the German playmaker of late, with some rumours suggesting that January offers could be a possibility.
Draxler has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s top talents of late with a string of impressive performances.
The 20-year-old’s displays have attracted much attention from across Europe, with Arsenal and Chelsea believed to be two of the most interested parties.
However, their hopes of securing his signature when the transfer window re-opens look slim, with Heldt stating that Draxler will not be sold:
“We will retain Draxler,” he is quoted by talkSPORT.
“There will be no dramas this winter.”
Despite his youthful age, Draxler has clocked almost 90 top tier appearances for Schalke, netting 13 goals in the process.
Arsenal were linked with a deadline day swoop for the youngster, but instead spent big to secure Mesut Ozil.
Chelsea are also in the fight, with the future of Juan Mata still unclear.
