As the Premier League season enters its final few weeks, plenty of attention has already turned to the summer and the next transfer window where as ever there is expected to be a great deal of activity involving Premier League clubs.

Last summer was no different with a number of high-profile arrivals making their way to England, where it’s safe to say others have performed slightly better than others.

Record signing Angel Di Maria is just one of the names who have found it difficult to find their form since making the switch to the Premier League, with high-profile stars Radamel Falcao and Mario Balotelli among some of the others who have failed to adapt to life at their new clubs.

But while their torments continue, others have settled in straight away and have become instant hits for their teams, helping them to successful seasons.

Here are the top five signings of the season...

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Sigurdsson

Tottenham’s decision to sell Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson has certainly been made to like a strange one as the season has progressed, but one which Swansea City have taken full advantage of.

The Welsh side are set for their highest ever top flight finish, and Sigurdsson has been a key part to their impressive season at the heart of their midfield.

The playmaker has hit double figures in terms of assists, one of only three Premier League players to do so, and with eight goals to his name has proved a tremendous signing for the Swans as they look to secure an eighth-placed finish.

Ryan Bertrand

Swansea City v Southampton - Barclays Premier League

Having initially joined Southampton on a loan deal at the beginning of the season, Ryan Bertrand sealed a permanent switch to the South Coast after Chelsea agreed his sale for £10m.

The Champions League winner has been a vital part of the Southampton defence that has performed so well this season, conceding just 28 goals in 35 games, the second best defensive record behind champions Chelsea.

Having been in around the top four for much for much of the season is testimate to just how well the club have performed this year; having been tipped to struggle after last summer’s mass exodus of players.

But Bertrand has been one of a number of superb signings that have all but secured European football for Southampton, and the left backs efforts were duly rewarded when he was named in the PFA Team of the Year.

Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas

Arsenal fans have certainly looked on with envy as their former midfield maestro has become an integral part of Chelsea’s title winning team with some terrific displays.

The Spaniard ended his opening season at the Bridge on a high lifting his first Premier League trophy, and he’s certainly proved to be a great signing by Jose Mourinho since his arrival from Barcelona last summer.

His omission from the Team of the Year was startling when you consider the season he has had, with the Spaniard raking up a league-high 17 assists and three goals to highlight just how important he has been.

Diego Costa

Diego Costa

Another of Chelsea’s summer signings that has played a huge part in their title success is their star striker Diego Costa.

Having enjoyed a prolific season with Atletico Madrid where he helped them to a famous La Liga title as well as the Champions League final, Mourinho made it a priority to bring him to Stamford Bridge in order to solve his problems upfront.

And despite a few injury problems throughout the season, Costa has certainly delivered with his 19 league goals proving invaluable to the Blues.

A terrific first season with Chelsea has already justified his £32m price tag, and having tormented defenders all season; a spot in the Team of the Year was richly deserved.

Alexis Sanchez

Hull City v Arsenal - Barclays Premier League

Following their 3-1 victory at Hull on Monday, Arsenal look set for their highest finish for a decade as they edge closer to assembling a team that look worthy of challenging for the title.

Much of their success this season can be credited to another former Barca man; Alexis Sanchez, who has taken the Premier League by storm during his first term in England following his £35m move from the Nou Camp.

The Chilean netted another two goals at the KC Stadium to take his total for the season to 24 in all competitions, proving just what a great signing he has been for Arsene Wenger.

A second place finish beckons for the Gunners, and with another FA Cup final on the horizon things are looking good for Arsenal, who have one of the world’s best in their ranks.

Sanchez can certainly count himself unfortunate not to win the Player of the Season award, and if he can continue this sort of form throughout the next campaign; Arsenal could be a real force.
