BBC’s Match of the Day may have found Jack Wilshere’s effort against West Brom to be ‘Goal of the Season’, but we at FFC Towers were unconvinced by this verdict. Yes it was decent strike, but over the course of the campaign we thought there were nine better ‘net bulgers’ so we asked the fans which they thought was the best, to which you responded in bulk.

To add some suspense and drama to proceedings, we have the top three in descending order for you right here…

3) Alexis Sanchez vs. Man City

A volley of the highest calibre, Sanchez’s fine effort against Man City certainly stuck in the memory. Just over 10% of the voters remembered the Chilean’s wonderful effort and got their votes in to support the Arsenal hero… But who beat him to No.2?

2) Charlie Adam vs. Chelsea

He beat one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League from inside his own half? Yep, Adam’s effort long range, which is perhaps an understatement, strike was one of the moments of the season, and made previous goals of the same ilk from Xabi Alonso and David Beckham look amateurish. The Scot strode towards the centre circle, looked up and drove a raking strike past Thibaut Coirtois, who could only get an agonising fingertip to it.

However, this was beaten to top spot…

1) Juan Mata vs. Liverpool

Perhaps not as ‘wow’ as No.2, Mata’s scissor-kick against Liverpool at Anfield was a massive strike in Man United’s season nonetheless. The goal sealed a memorable win on Merseyside against their biggest top four rivals - well, at the time – and was a defining moment in the surge for Champions League football.
