The Metro are reporting that the Toffees boss is ready to bring a new striker to Goodison Park. Arouna Kone is out injured for the rest of the season, meaning Romelu Lukaku is currently the club’s only fit true striker, until his loan deal expires at the end of the season.
Martinez has confirmed he wants to bolster his attack force, saying: “It (the forward line) would be an area that we are looking at before the window closes. We are looking at the options to see if there is a player with the right profile who would fit into the squad.”
And it seems the former Wigan boss wants to sign Lukaku’s compatriot Michy Batshuayi, a highly-rated youngster from Standard Liege. The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, and has a reported £6.7million release clause in his contract.
But the Toffees will be hoping that Batshuayi, who has scored 15 league goals in Belgium this season, will be tempted to move to Everton, with the potential to play more first team football than at the Emirates.
Lukaku has scored nine Premier League goals this season, the same amount as Alvaro Negredo, Wayne Rooney and Olivier Giroud. But Martinez wants to bring in his replacement now, to prepare for when the 20-year-old returns to Chelsea in the summer.
