The shock opening weekend defeat at the hands of London rivals West Ham has certainly cast a fair few doubts over whether Arsene Wenger's decision to make Petr Cech his only signing of the summer is a wise one.Wenger's side did bounce back from that loss with an impressive 2-1 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park but, despite that win, it still remains painfully clear for all to see that if Arsenal are going to be winning the Premier League title this season they will need to add some midfield steel and some striking magic to the squad.Arsenal do look very strong this year, more so than they have for many years, and are strongly fancied by many pundits to win the title. However, with just Francis Coquelin as the main defensive midfielder, it's clear Wenger is woefully short of experience in that area of his team.[ffc-gal cat="arsenal" no="5"] There's still Mikel Arteta, but he isn't quite the player he once was, and now is probably the time to begin phasing him out of first team football at the Emirates. So another solid defensive midfielder like Grzegorz Krychowiak would be a very good bit of business. The Polish international would ensure Wenger's side have a far more steely look about them, and his arrival would give the Gunners' midfield the power needed against their title rivals.A player who could strengthen the striking positions at Arsenal would be Real Madrid's Karim Benzema.Fellow Frenchman Olivier Giroud is admirable and does put in a solid shift whenever he plays, but he doesn't get as many goals as Arsenal need and isn't a striker of the world class pedigree like a Diego Costa or Sergio Aguero, who are of the class needed to win Premier League titles.Someone like Benzema would certainly fit that description perfectly. He has been heavily linked with a move away from Madrid this summer and Arsenal could be his destination. However, it is looking more likely that Benzema will be staying put in Spain with new Madrid boss Rafa Bentiez detailing his plans of how his striker will get 25 goals this season to the press. And then you've got the France international's personal admission that he'll be staying in the Spanish capital this summer...

Wenger would undoubtedly be frustrated that he hasn't been able to secure a deal for the striker. Benzema has scored 124 goals in the last five seasons in Spain and, with his style of play, he would've surely found the net in England on a regular basis, too.

If you put Benzema and Krychowiak into Arsenal's squad then you would have to say that Wenger's men would have a great chance of winning the title, without the pair you would have to say it is only really a good chance.

At least one of them could still happen...
