Arsene Wenger has revealed that he’s ready to do business right up until the transfer deadline on Monday night, but that Arsenal’s plans will be kept secret.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with moves for a striker and a centre-forward over the course of the past few days, with Olivier Giroud’s injury woes and the sale of Thomas Vermaelen having left them short of options in the roles.
Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Colombian goal-getter Radamel Falcao have been dubbed as the players of choice at the Emirates Stadium, but Wenger himself has talked down the possibility of signing in recent times.
However, the Frenchman says that he’s set to monitor all activity in the market over the weekend up until the window closes, but that he will not make targets or potential moves public knowledge:
“I will be actively involved on the final day of the window and I will be on alert until the last minute of transfer deadline day,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.
“If we sign somebody we will inform you,” he said. “It’s very difficult to go into everything and I believe that all of the negotiations have to be as secret as possible.
“If we sign anyone, even if we sign Falcao, you will be informed.”
Arsenal grabbed the headlines on deadline day a year ago, as they smashed their club record to seal the £42.5m arrival of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.
