Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has moved to rubbish reports that Lukas Podolski is set to leave the club before next week’s transfer deadline.
The 29-year-old German – who helped his nation to World Cup victory earlier this summer – has been heavily linked with a move away from the Gunners over the course of the past few days amid talk that he’s no longer needed at the Emirates Stadium.
Juventus have been mooted as the most likely suitors for the experienced forward, with a loan deal rumoured to have been on the cards.
Sides from his homeland have also been linked with moves for his services, after the arrival of Alexis Sanchez added to an Arsenal squad already packed with top class attacking and wide players.
However, speaking ahead of the second leg of his side’s Champions League qualifier with Besiktas, Wenger ruled out offloading Podolski:
“Podolski is in the squad tomorrow and will stay with us,” he is quoted by talkSPORT.
Podolski is now in line for a central striker role for Arsenal, with Olivier Giroud set for a long period on the sidelines thanks to a foot injury.
