As is always the case around this time of year, Arsenal are currently suffering with a bit of in injury crisis. The hectic fixture list of the winter period and the tough conditions always expose players to strains and knocks, and sure enough the Gunners are missing a number of attacking talents in the shape of Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

There are already suggestions that Arsene Wenger is ready to react in January by bringing back a loanee in the shape of Gedion Zelalem from Rangers, but perhaps Jon Toral is worth a look, especially after smashing a wonderful goal for Birmingham City on the weekend.

The young Spaniard arrived alongside Hector Bellerin from Barcelona back in 2011, but unlike the right-back he hasn’t had his opportunity just yet. However, he’s shining at St. Andrews, and during a game in which his current manager, Gary Rowett, hailed him as the “best player on the pitch”, he netted a lovely goal against Fulham.

And the stats, via WhoScored, make for good reading, too.

Over his 608 minutes of Championship football for the Blues so far this term, Toral has registered 1.2 key passes per game and the same number in terms of shots at goal, which is encouraging for a 20-year-old in the second tier.

Further to this his numbers while on loan at Brentford last term were impressive as well. Six goals and two assists despite his age certainly suggest that he has what it takes to step up in the not too distant future.

Worth a go, Wenger?
