Arsenal have enquired about the availability of Porto striker Jackson Martinez in case a loan deal for Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata cannot be agreed, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners are understood to have opened talks with Real over the possibility of a loan move for the Spanish forward, despite having previous approaches rebuffed.

But if the club cannot agree a short term deal, Arsene Wenger is prepared to spend big to land a reliable centre forward.

Colombia striker Martinez is a leading candidate, and is thought to have a £33.2million release clause.

The 27-year-old has also attracted interest from Chelsea.

Rubin Kazan forward and Tottenham target Salomon Rondon is also believed to be on the Gunners' radar, while Wenger has also reignited his interest in Lille and former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou.

Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa would be a dream signing for Wenger, but with the Spaniards in the last 16 of the Champions League and fighting for the La Liga title, it would be almost impossible to prise him away from the Spanish capital this month
