Arsenal’s hopes of securing a summer deal for QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar have suffered a setback, with news that the Brazilian international is happy to be linked with Roma.

The Italians are thought to have stepped up their interest in the stopper after allowing Maarten Stekelenburg to complete a switch to Fulham.

Arsenal have been linked with Cesar for some time, and were reportedly close to securing a deal for his signature earlier this month.

But, with no formal agreement in place, the Serie A giants could swoop in and steal him from under the Gunners' nose.

Cesar – who was once thought of as one of the best goalkeepers in world football – says that he is happy to be linked with Roma, but insisted that his future is not settled just yet.

"I'm happy to hear about the Roma interest,” he told Sky Sports.

"But at the moment I don't want to talk about my future. I am only thinking about Brazil.

"I'm happy at the moment. After everything that happened at Inter, my career has changed a lot.

"But I'm here at the moment and QPR will decide my future as well."

A new number one is thought to be high on Arsene Wenger’s summer wish list, and the Frenchman is said to be keen on Cesar after watching his impressive performances in the Premier League with relegated QPR last term.
