Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Julian Draxler, after Schalke’s general manager hinted that they may sell their starlet.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with the 20-year-old ace in recent months, with rumours suggesting that they came close to making a formal offer for his signature over the summer.
Despite instead swooping for Mesut Ozil – a £42m signing from Real Madrid – Arsene Wenger has remained keen on the youngster and has been watching his progress closely.
But, with a number of injury problems – including Theo Walcott – the Frenchman has been linked with a move for Draxler in the coming weeks.
Although Schalke have always insisted that their man is not for sale, general manager Horst Heldt hinted that he could leave Gelsenkirchen in the not too distant future:
“We continue to hope that Julian remains,” he is quoted by The Metro.
“But there are factors that we can not influence.”
A move before the impending deadline passes appears unlikely, but Arsenal may be able to get their man over the summer.
Draxler would add to the London side’s German ranks, with Ozil, Serge Gnabry, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski all hailing from the European country.
