The Welsh international has been one of the Gunners’ top performers this season, playing a key role in the Londoners’ push for the title.
Prior to the current campaign, questions were being asked about Ramsey’s all-round ability and desire to live up to his potential, to which the classy midfielder has responded with an impressive 13 goals – despite not having featured in the Arsenal team since Boxing Day.
Parlour believes that with a little more belief, the 23-year-old can be as good as Gerrard – whom he describes as the best player he ever took on in his playing days:
“Without doubt, Aaron Ramsey can become as influential as Steven Gerrard. Ramsey needs to believe in his own abilities,” he is quoted by the London Evening Standard.
“He is a young and exciting talent and will definitely be a top, top player in the future. He wants to learn and is blessed with the ideal attributes for a midfield player.
“Gerrard was the best player I have ever faced,
“I think he is absolutely world class. He isn’t as effective box-to-box as he was a few years ago, but he continues to make the difference.”
Ramsey’s development is even more impressive when a potentially career-ending injury suffered after a horror tackle from Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross is taken into consideration.
The Potters defender’s reckless actions left the midfielder with a badly broken leg in 2010.
