The Gunners recently swooped to beat bitter rivals Liverpool to the £30m Chilean, who impressed during the World Cup this summer.
The arrival of the 25-year-old has been met with much praise in north London, with Sanchez possessing the sort of quality many believe can aid the club’s push to get back to the very top of the English game.
One man firmly in that camp is Pires, with the Frenchman – who starred in Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ side – confident that the South American has the ability to spark title pushes at the Emirates Stadium:
“His preference for Arsenal is a big gesture for the Arsenal family,” he is quoted by the Daily Star.
“I’m very happy because the Arsenal board have signed a world-class star.
“I am sure Alexis will help to win titles. He played pretty well in the World Cup.
“I like his offensive skills and I believe he will fit very well to the system that Arsene Wenger has in mind.”
Arsenal have also snapped up Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle and are being linked with Real Madrid’s German World Cup winner Sami Khedira.
