Arsenal are considering a surprise summer move for Nuremburg striker Josip Drmic, according to the Metro.

The Gunners are preparing for a busy summer of transfer activity, with a new striker believed to be top of Wenger’s priorities.

The club have been linked with a host of big names, including Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Alvaro Morata, as well as Porto’s Jackson Martinez.

But it seems little known Swiss striker Drmic could be the man Wenger turns to.

German newspaper Bild claims Wenger has been tracking Drmic for months, and has been receiving recent updates on his progress.

The 21-year-old has fired 11 goals in 23 league games for Nuremburg since signing from FC Zurich in 2013.

The 6ft 2in forward is largely an unrecognised quantity across Europe, although he has been capped five times by Switzerland, and has scored twice.

Russian duo Zenit St Petersburg and Rubin Kazan were previously linked with the forward in January, although a bid never materialised.

Meanwhile, Arsenal head into their north London derby without Tottenham without Mesut Ozil.

The German has joined Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey on the sidelines after injuring his hamstring against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
