Arsenal are reportedly set to battle it out with Serie A side Fiorentina to sign Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez in January.

Italian website calciomercato.com has claimed that the Mexican could be preparing to leave United, after falling out of favour with Sir Alex Ferguson following the arrival of former Arsenal star Robin van Persie. It has been rumoured that Hernandez would look at moving on from United in order to play regularly.

According to reports, Arsene Wenger has as much as £35 million at his disposal. Wenger has also admitted in the last few days that he will have to get another striker, with Fernando Llorente being a potential target.

However, Arsenal may face competition for Hernandez's signature from Serie A side Fiorentina, who missed out on signing Dimitar Berbatov on the final day of the last transfer window.

Losing van Persie, who signed for Manchester United in a £24 million deal during the summer, was a blow for Arsenal, with the striker scoring 37 goals for the club in competitions last season and Wenger will surely be hoping that a signing like Hernandez could add to the potential for goals.

Arsenal's current crop of strikers have had mixed fortunes - summer signing Olivier Giroud has struggled n front of goal, Theo Walcott could be on his way out, Gervinho  has been inconsistent and Wenger seems to prefer to play Lukas Podolski on the left.

Javier Hernandez has become lower on Manchester United's pecking order of strikers due to the success of new arrival van Persie and has appeared in just one game for Manchester United in the Premier League this season.
