Arsenal are continuing to watch Diego Costa with interest ahead of a potential January bid, with the Atletico Madrid forward carrying a £32million release clause, reports the Daily Mail.
Gunners scouts have been present at the last two Atletico games, but it is understood the North London club hope to pay under the release clause for the in form striker.
It is no secret the Gunners are in the market for a striker this January, with Olivier Giroud having to burden the goalscoring responsibility almost single handedly so far this season.
The Brazilian has proved himself to be one of Europe’s deadliest marksmen so far this season, scoring 22 goals in 21 games, including 17 goals in 16 La Liga games – statistics that put him level with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
Costa only signed a new deal with Atletico in the summer with the club looking to stave off interest from Liverpool, although it is understood a £32million release clause was included.
Arsenal failed with a summer bid for Luis Suarez, and the Uruguayan has since fired Liverpool to within two points of the Gunners at the top of the Premier League table.
Wenger also missed out on Gonzalo Higuain, Stevan Jovetic and Wayne Rooney in the summer, and is hoping to have more luck in his pursuit of Costa in January.
