Arsenal are considering a new move for Lyon midfielder Yoann Gourcuff, according to reports from Le10Sport.

The French playmaker has been linked with the Gunners on numerous occasions in the past, but a deal for the silky passer has always evaded Arsene Wenger.

But with Theo Walcott’s injury woes, the Emirates Stadium chief is ready to push hard to an agreement in the coming weeks.

Gourcuff was once hailed as one of European football’s finest playmakers, but a series of injuries have contributed to a dramatic dip in form since his move from Bordeaux to Lyon in 2010.

However, Wenger has remained a big admirer of his talents throughout the difficult period, and is keen to lure him to North London.

The Ligue 1 side are set to lose a number of their top players in the coming transfer windows as financial difficulties grip the once dominant French force.

Wenger sees the creative ace as the ideal man to boost his side’s title charge and may opt to make a permanent move for his services rather than a loan deal that has been mooted during the past few years.
