Arsenal are preparing to make an offer of £2million to take Alvaro Morata on loan from Real Madrid for the second half of the season, according to the Metro.

Arsene Wenger has moved into the transfer market to sign a new forward, following the news Theo Walcott will miss the remainder of the season through injury.

The Gunners also have injury concerns over Nicklas Bendtner and Olivier Giroud to contend with.

Wenger would much prefer to bring in a player on a temporary basis to add cover to his squad, before looking for a top forward to sign on a permanent deal in the summer.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti had previously said he would not allow any players to leave the club this month, but the 21-year-old forward remains desperate for some first team opportunities.

Morata has been on the fringes of things at the Bernabeu, and Wenger is hoping a £2million loan fee will persuade Ancelotti to do business.

Wenger was coy on his transfer intentions last week, but the injury to Walcott has drastically changed the circumstances.

The Gunners are expected to submit an offer in the next few days.
