A report in this morning's Daily Telegraph suggests that Arsenal would consider letting Mesut Ozil leave the Emirates Stadium if the playmaker does not lower his wage demands.

What's the word?

Ozil only has 18 months left on his contract at Arsenal and we discussed earlier this week how Wenger's side are struggling to keep up with his wage demands, with Ozil seeking parity with the Premier League's best-paid players.

That followed other reports, which we also looked into, that Ozil was looking at a move back to Real Madrid.

The rumours about his departure are only strengthened by this latest claim in The Telegraph, which says Arsenal may be willing to let their star man leave next year.

The paper say Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are both interested in his services and that Wenger would be willing to let him go so Arsenal can focus their resources on retaining Alexis Sanchez.

Star man

In three-and-a-half seasons at the Emirates, Ozil has proven himself to be the man Wenger can rely on most to create and score goals in the Arsenal line-up.

He was the club's player of the season last year and made an incredible 19 Premier League assists, a higher return than anyone in the division.

Should they lose Ozil he won't be easily replaced and we reckon Arsenal should think seriously about letting him leave in the summer.

Over his 134 appearances for the club, there's rarely been a player who has performed better for the Gunners.
