Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he wanted to sign Gareth Bale at the same time that he brought Theo Walcott to North London.
The Frenchman has claimed that he wanted to sign the pair from Southampton but only the Walcott deal could be done at the time.
Bale moved to Arsenal’s North London rivals Spurs a year after Walcott arrived at the Emirates and the duo have continued to improve to become top players.
Tottenham’s pacey winger is now considered one of the best players in the Premier League if not the world with his recent form basically unplayable.
Two stunning Bale free kicks gave Spurs a 2-1 victory over Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday just days after the Welshman netted a brace to see of Newcastle in the league.
Wenger however is pleased that he chose Walcott over Bale but he would loved to have signed both.
“It was Walcott and Bale, and we were at some stage on (about) taking the two if possible, but we could get Walcott and I am very happy we got him,” Wenger told talkSPORT.
“If I tell you the number of players we did not sign who we should have signed, you would be amazed, but it is the same for every single club, you miss players.”
