Stevan Jovetic could join Manchester City in the next 24 hours, snubbing a host of Premier League sides.
Arsenal and Chelsea had shown an interest in the Montenegrin forward, as had champions Manchester United.
But The Daily Star is reporting that the Fiorentina forward could be on his way to the Etihad within the next 24 hours, although manager Manuel Pellegrini is unsure who they will actually sign. The club have been linked with a host of names, including Alvaro Negredo, and the City boss is unsure who will arrive first.
“We don’t know at this moment who is going to come here,” Pellegrini said.
“We are trying to bring the best players into our squad. I am always open to young players, and to good players. I don’t know if anything will happen before we leave South Africa, but maybe the next day we will have fresh news.”
The 23-year-old scored 13 goals in Serie A last season, and has become one of the hottest rated young forwards in Europe. Rumours of his departure from the Stadio Artemio Franchi were increased when the club signed Mario Gomez from Bayern Munich.
Jovetic could replace Carlos Tevez at the Etihad, after the Argentine joined Juventus.
How good will Jovetic be in the Premier League? Should he pick City over Arsenal?
